About

The West Barnstable Fire District is an independent quasi-municipal agency created by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1949 to provide fire protection, emergency medical services, water and street lights to the village of West Barnstable. The District executive authority is exercised by an elected three member Prudential Committee (similar to a combined Board of Selectman and Finance Committee). The legislative branch of the District is a District Meeting of voters (think Town Meeting) that is held on the last Wednesday evening of April each year at the West Barnstable Community Building. Special District Meetings can be called as needed. The District also elects three Water Commissioners to a Board of Water Commissioners. The Prudential Committee appoints the Fire Chief and the Deputy Fire Chief.

The Prudential Committee usually meets at 4 pm on the third Wednesday of each month at the Fire Station, 2160 Meetinghouse Lane, West Barnstable. The Water Commissioners meet on an as needed basis.

The Annual Fire District Meeting is (usually) held on the last Wednesday of April of each year.
